Open days at Goldsmiths, University of London

Goldsmiths is a university rooted in the local area but with a global outlook and diverse student community. It has a reputation for creativity and innovation offering degrees in subjects ranging from the humanities and social sciences to computing and law but is perhaps best known for its arts and creative programmes.

Facilities

Unusually for a London university, Goldsmiths holds almost all teaching, learning and support facilities in one place so students benefit from a convenient, close-knit campus.

The Rutherford building is home to the library, open 24/7 most days of the year and is also the place for IT services, digital media and the assistive technology centre.

Specialist facilities include various studios, practice rooms and performance opportunities for music; studio spaces and workshops in art and design; radio, TV and photography studios; and a 200-seat theatre plus studios and wardrobe/prop stores.

There's also a new public art gallery with free exhibitions.

Why go to an open day?

When you attend an open day, you'll get a gut feeling about the university. Open days will help give you clarity if you're not sure what course to choose. You'll be able to visit different departments and chat with lecturers and other department staff, there are often subject talks too. You'll also get to speak to current students. They can tell you whether they're satisfied with the teaching, what the local nightlife is like, what the best halls of residence are – pretty much anything. Don't forget to look at the accommodation for yourself and make time to walk around the surrounding area to see if you like it.

Where is it located?

Goldsmiths has one campus in New Cross, South East London. Its easily accessible by train, overground, tube and bus.

There are lots of local friendly cafes and pubs hosting live music off campus, such as the Amersham Arms and the New Cross Inn. Students can also enjoy Deptford and Peckham for their arts venues and nights out. There are excellent markets and festivals, such as Deptford X and Lewisham Live and lots of green space to enjoy like Telegraph Hill Park. Central London is less than 10 minutes away by train.
