Open days at University of Southampton
A founding member of the Russell Group of universities, Southampton has a strong reputation for pioneering research in areas like engineering, computer science and health studies. For example, a high percentage of its research output is rated as world-leading or internationally excellent in the UK government's most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) assessment.
It's known for its undergraduate and postgraduate courses in various fields such as arts, humanities, engineering, medicine, oceanography and social sciences.
Facilities
The university has a dedicated careers service and offers a range of opportunities for its students including internships, work placements and postgraduate research places. Many Southampton degrees include projects designed in collaboration with businesses.
Other benefits on offer include several computer labs, a gym, sports hall, swimming pool and outdoor pitches as well as an impressive array of arts services. Its research resources include a wind tunnel, towing tank, and microscopy lab.

Where is it located?
The university has five campuses in Southampton, one in Winchester and one in Malaysia. The main campus is the Highfield campus, found to the north of the city and a short bus ride from the centre.
Southampton is a port city on the south coast of England. It's known for its maritime tradition and famous for being the place the Titanic left from. It's a lively and friendly place to study with a growing cultural scene. It was shortlisted as the UK鈥疌ity of Culture for 2025.
The city has a wide range of restaurants, cafes, and bars that cater to all tastes and budgets. It also has a vibrant nightlife, with many clubs and music venues that host live music and DJ sets.
