Hi, my name is Charlotte and I'm a second year Creative Writing and English Literature student at the University of Winchester and I'm here today to talk a little bit about my experience of applying through Clearing.

Why did you go through Clearing?

So, I did get into my first-choice uni and I got the grades for it, but I decided to reject my place as I wanted to go somewhere a bit more local to me, within sort of 45 minutes from home, and that's how I found Winchester. I found that they offered Creative Writing and English Literature which was something that I hadn't necessarily considered, I鈥檇 never thought about doing Creative Writing before. I phoned up the friendly team at Winchester and they offered me a place which I was really pleased to take because doing Creative Writing has meant that I have discovered my passion for publishing, which is what I'd like to do once I graduate.

Do you like your university?

I'm really happy at Winchester, I love the city that I live in and I think the small classes are great, it's built my confidence up so much because I know my lecturers and my classmates all on a first name basis and there is that sense of community there.

What advice would you give students going through Clearing?

Some of my top tips for people that might be applying to university through Clearing this year are, to follow your gut because quite often it's right. Also, one thing that I think is really important is to look around your degree, if you are interested in a certain discipline there might be other course options for you that are available, and you might discover that you find the perfect course for you.
