Kayleigh's story of studying at University of Central Lancashire

Kayleigh is studying Fashion Promotion & Marketing

Years after originally studying with at University of Central Lancashire, Kayleigh applied through Clearing for a place on BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion & Marketing, and is now finishing her degree. Balancing home life and university can be a lot to take on, but Kayleigh knew returning to university was the right decision for her family.

What is your name?

Hi, my name is Kayleigh Atkinson.

What are you studying?

I'm studying Fashion Promotion and Marketing, and I came through Clearing. Well, I actually came here originally to study Photography, but I came through Clearing because there was a course that I wanted to do instead which was Fashion Promotion and Photography, it was a course combined, but I found it wasn't really for me, so, I left and changed course to Brand Management.

I left uni and went into industry for about 10 -11 years and then came through Clearing again to finish the course I started but the name had just changed to Fashion Promotion and Marketing.

How did you find going back to uni as a mature student?

So coming back as a mature student, it was, I鈥檓 not going to lie, a little bit daunting at first but it kind of felt personally like something I had to do. Instead of just myself as the main priority, I have a child, I have a house to support, it's a very different set of priorities. So keeping the long-term goal that this is to give a better life for my family, that鈥檚 the whole point really.

What advice would you give for a mature student going back to uni?

Don't be afraid to come as a mature student at all because there's a lot of support here and the support has been so much better than it was 10 years ago. It's certainly moved forward, so yeah, you鈥檙e never going to be alone in anything at all and just do it for yourself, definitely.
