About this course

Would you like to use your talents in a career where you support children, young people and their families? This degree will prepare you for professional opportunities in settings such as health, social care, education and youth justice.You’ll become familiar with the range of services for children and young people. Through work placements of your choosing, you’ll apply your learning in real practice settings to make a difference to young people’s lives.This course will introduce social pedagogy, an inclusive and holistic approach to wellbeing, learning and growth. It’s endorsed by the Social Pedagogy Professional Association (SPPA). You’ll gain an understanding of children’s law and rights and the importance of safeguarding. Studies also include child development, life transitions, ethics and diversity, and relationship-based professional practice.


Future Skills

Embedded within every course curriculum and throughout the whole Kingston experience, Future Skills will play a role in shaping you to become a future-proof graduate, providing you with the skills most valued by employers such as problem-solving, digital competency, and adaptability. As you progress through your degree, you'll learn to navigate, explore and apply these graduate skills, learning to demonstrate and articulate to employers how future skills give you the edge. When you enter the workforce, after graduating from this course, your study and placement experience will have prepared you for effective interprofessional working with children and young people in a variety of roles such as: -Youth offending team officer-Youth worker-Family support worker-Social work assistant-Nursery and Early Years practitioner-Teaching assistant -Healthcare support worker -Maternity support worker -Nursing support worker-Speech and language support worker.This course is also excellent preparation to progress onto study at postgraduate level on our professional courses:-Master of Social Work (2 years)-MSc Nursing (Adult, Child, Learning Disability, Mental Health) (2 years)-PGCE Primary Teaching (1 year)
