Course overview
Our world is facing significant environmental problems, and we urgently need to find solutions to mitigate the devastating impact humans have on our planet. Our Sustainability with Environmental Management BSc will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of environmental science, policy and management, and equip you with the professional skills necessary for a dynamic career in the sustainability sector.
The programme has been designed to provide you with a solid foundation in sustainability with environmental management in your first year, preparing you for advanced study in years two and three.
Work placement year
A work placement year between years two and three of your degree is a fantastic way to gain industry experience with an environmentally focused company or organisation, helping you to stand out in the competitive job market. Employers seek to recruit individuals with high-level subject knowledge and skills who also understand the workplace. Placements provide an insight into what it is like to work in a specific area of the industry and allow you to familiarise yourself with the professional working environment and enable you to apply the skills and theory youve been learning. Alternatively, you could choose our optional flexible work placement module to gain further practical expertise.
Foundation year
Our Foundation Year provides an excellent alternative route to Keele, providing a unique opportunity to better prepare for your chosen degree, and with guaranteed entry onto your undergraduate course once you successfully complete your Foundation Year.
This extra year of study can improve your academic skills, expand your subject knowledge, give you a better understanding of higher education and, perhaps most importantly of all, build your confidence.
Your future career
95% of Keele students are in employment or further study within 15 months of finishing their studies (HESA Graduate Outcomes, 2019/20)
Upon graduation you will have a breadth of knowledge that crosses the traditional science-social science divide and have become familiar with the professional working environment. You will have gained valuable transferable skills and experience in areas such as field and laboratory skills, data collection and analysis, Geographic Information Systems, critical thinking, team working and project management.
