Course summary

Our Sports Therapy MSc course is designed for sports scientists and similar graduates who wish to learn clinical skills and apply their knowledge to a therapy setting. You'll learn how to diagnose and treat sports injuries and develop practical and clinical skills. Completing the course will make you eligible for membership of The Society of Sports Therapists (SST), which gives you licence to practice as a sports therapist.

London Metropolitan University is proud to have been one of the first universities in the UK to develop this ground-breaking degree. The course answers the growing demand for professionals with sports-specific knowledge by equipping you with the tools necessary to become a professional sports therapist.

This MSc focuses on developing your ability to diagnose, treat and rehabilitate sports injuries or dysfunction. It includes the development of practical, patient-handling and clinical decision-making skills.

Our University has a long history of teaching sports science and therapy courses and an excellent record of graduate employment in these fields. You’ll benefit from a range of specialist resources within our £30m Science Centre including a fully-functioning public clinic.

If you successfully complete the course you’ll be eligible for membership of The Society of Sports Therapists (SST), an organisation which strives to increase the levels of care provided for sports and recreational participants. By joining this society, you'll have access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through exclusive courses, workshops, conferences and other professional events.

Our excellent teaching staff include academic leader Nick Gardiner, who has written for a prestigious sports medicine publication.

Through access to these resources, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a successful sports therapist.

Assessment

A variety of methods will be used to assess your performance, including literature reviews, seminar presentations, written seminar papers, time-constrained assessments, practicals (including oral examinations) and a dissertation.

Professional accreditation

This course is accredited by The Society of Sports Therapists. Successfully pass the course in order to become eligible for membership of the organisation.

Where this course can take you

Many of our graduates work with professional, semi-professional and amateur sporting institutions. These include football, rugby, ice hockey and basketball teams as well as professional cyclists.

Roles have also been plentiful in other areas of private practice, such as sports therapy and rehabilitation services within health and leisure centres. You’ll also have the option to pursue further research.
