Course summary

With a practical, real-world, multi and inter-disciplinary emphasis on the latest developments in sport, exercise and health nutrition, our BSc (Hons) Sport, Exercise and Nutrition course will teach you about the interplay between psychology, physiology and nutrition. Together, this will allow you to support individuals to perform at their best whether their goal is to excel in sports or they aim to exercise for health benefits.

Student-athletes have access to a sports laboratory and testing equipment in our specialist sport and teaching facility and a bespoke nutrition kitchen, combining practical hands-on training with the latest contemporary research in the field of sport and exercise nutrition to set you up for a career in this area.

The scientific content of the curriculum is aligned with the scientific knowledge requirements and competencies detailed in the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr) and during your studies, you will be encouraged to critically evaluate existing theory and practice as well as carry out independent research.

We appreciate the demands of combining study and soccer development so, where possible, we ensure our student-athletes benefit from maximised time in both the classroom and on the pitch. Timetabling is done in such a manner that means academic study will typically be taught in the morning with soccer activities taking place in the afternoon.

This course is geared towards developing graduates who have the knowledge and skills to secure a successful career in the fields of sport, exercise or nutrition, including public health and well-being, sports development and management, coaching, fitness instruction and more.

A distinctive feature of the course is its alignment with the scientific knowledge requirements and competencies detailed in the Sport and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENr). The course has been mapped to the SENr knowledge competencies at an introductory level. Therefore, whilst the undergraduate degree would need to be supplemented by an appropriate postgraduate qualification for you to be accepted onto the Graduate Register, SENr approval denotes that this programme appropriately prepares students for further post graduate study in the field of sport and exercise nutrition. Such recognition is becoming increasingly important for securing jobs in the field.

Our course is designed to support you in developing the key competencies, skills and attitudes that graduates need. Developing your knowledge, practical skills and confidence to work in a variety of roles associated with sports science is at the heart of all module learning experiences and assessment. To help you stand out, there may be scope to explore a variety of 'add-on' courses, although additional costs may incur. Courses might include 'working with people who have disabilities', 'working with children', 'first aid', 'ISAK Level 1/2 Body Composition Analysis' etc., to enhance your employability prospects and graduate readiness.

You will graduate with a fantastic mix of skills, combining in-depth subject knowledge, excellent practical and interpersonal skills plus hands-on work experience, which will open doors to some really exciting career opportunities. Graduates from this course can go on to work in a range of fields, including sport and exercise nutrition, sport and exercise physiology, the food industry, health promotion, exercise on referral, dietetics, research and more.

As an i2i student-athlete, you will be in a unique position to prepare yourself for a career both inside and outside of soccer. Whether you are looking to go into playing soccer at a professional level or are hoping to engage with a career elsewhere in the soccer or sporting industry, you will be able to take advantage of a unique programme offering that prepares you for a multitude of career paths.
