Course summary
Explore the intersection of psychology and society. You'll discover the complexities of human behaviour in a cross-cultural, globally orientated degree.
What is social psychology? Put simply, it covers the psychology behind social interactions and how society influences things like your personality, actions and group behaviour.
On this degree, you'll discover the multifaceted dimensions of psychology, from social and cultural to political, ecological, and spiritual. You'll explore diverse topics such as human consciousness, AI, psychoanalysis, positive psychology, persuasion, parapsychology, musicology, mindfulness, and spirituality.
As part of this course you'll:
Develop an understanding of the relationship between psychology and society
Explore interdisciplinary perspectives to understand consciousness, the mind, and the self
Gain insight into how the environment, spirituality, language, and relationships shape our identities
Conduct your own psychological research
Build your skills through hands-on experience, for a successful career in psychology, psychotherapy, counselling, teaching, mental health support, social work and more
Learn from experts
The modules you'll study on this course reflect our lecturers' active research interests, providing a rich teaching experience beyond textbooks. Our specialist team includes chartered psychologists, psychotherapists, mindfulness-based practitioners, parapsychologists, and sociologists.
Teaching & Learning
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. Youll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.
Career Prospects
Throughout the social psychology degree, we'll help you to identify and reflect on your career goals alongside building key skills. You'll gain core interpersonal and research skills that are valued by employers and needed for future careers in psychology, psychotherapy and counselling, teaching, mental health support and social work.
