Course summary
Our one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) prepares you to teach across the secondary school French curriculum for the 11-16 age range. At Manchester Met, youll mainly study with your PGCE French group. We'll teach you in your target language to provide an opportunity for you to practice and develop your language. Youll consider how to plan lessons, reflect on your planning, learn how research can develop your teaching practice, and look at ways to develop your teacher persona. On your placements, youll normally have the opportunity to teach your main language and your second language (subject to your level in your second language, and in full discussion with yourself). We also welcome speakers of heritage / other languages, and we do our utmost to enable speakers of additional languages to have an opportunity to teach these on placement too. Past students have contributed to Urdu, Italian, Japanese and Somali teaching – and we are very keen to keep extending the range of languages.
Career prospects
Most of our graduates go on to work as French teachers in secondary schools.
The PGCE programme provides you with 60 masters' level credits when you graduate. You could put these towards a masters degree to help you develop your career in the field of education.
