Course summary

The acting business is always changing. This Masters in Acting is designed to take your performance skills to the next level while teaching you about the contemporary demands of the industry. Well show you how to find and create opportunities, such as in voiceover work for gaming, audiobooks and radio, alongside acting for stage and screen.

As a performer, your career will be collaborative. We give you plenty of opportunities to connect with people at every level, in every discipline. Youll explore a range of skills, such as producing and directing, and become confident in the entrepreneurial demands of a portfolio career. Youll take part in actor training, build a theatre company, and perform at indoor and outdoor theatres on our campus, as well as at professional venues in Bath.

Throughout the MA, youll develop your professional profile, hone your skills and grow your network of contacts, so that when you graduate, youre equipped to take on the challenges faced by the contemporary actor, and thrive.

MA Performance (Acting) is primarily a practical acting course. Workshops in voice, text, movement and acting, which youll experience in our state-of-the-art rehearsal studios, are designed to enable you to work to professional standards by the time you graduate.

We respond to current industry trends, and examine theory, history and cultural contexts that inform your performance practice. This allows you to become an articulate practitioner – someone who can talk about their work, their methods and their approaches at auditions and when meeting industry professionals.

The latest industry best practices – those that are inclusive and empower the actor – inform our course. With us, youll learn to navigate the modern acting environment, such as setting boundaries around physical contact and intimacy, disclosing neurodiversity, and safeguarding your own wellbeing as a professional in this competitive field.

As an actor, youll often be the public face of a project. For this reason, we also provide media training – including social media advice – so that youll become skilled in communicating with interviewers and audiences.
