Course summary

Our best defence against disease isnt a new therapy, wonder drug or technological miracle. Its knowledge. On our MSc Clinical Biochemistry degree, you will gain the technical skills and in-depth understanding to explore, harness and add to that knowledge.  Its a masters course that offers both a theoretical understanding of clinical biochemistry concepts, together with the practical techniques to apply those theories in research – equipping you for practice at specialist level.  Youll study a range of units, taking a systematic approach to disorders, developing expert analytical techniques and exploring the essential concepts around general, specialist and diagnostic clinical biochemistry.  Youll also complete an independent research project, building professional-level research skills. This is your opportunity to explore the issues that fascinate you – making the most of our extensive links with hospitals across Greater Manchester to conduct research in clinically relevant areas in a real-world context.  Throughout this clinical biochemistry masters, you will have the support of an expert team and access to specialist laboratory facilities.   Our course is accredited by the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) which means our teaching is of a high standard and provides wide-ranging, research-informed education to ensure you develop the practical skills and experience that employers value. Please note, that although this MSc is accredited by the IBMS it does not fulfil the requirements to gaining registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and does not provide the opportunity to complete the IBMS Registration Training Portfolio. Our MSc Clinical Biochemistry can pave the way to a wide range of opportunities in areas like hospital science and the biomedical and pharmaceutical industries. The subjects youll cover will not only help you prepare for the Institute of Biomedical Science higher specialist examination, and the advanced practice that follows, but can also lay the groundwork for careers in research or teaching or to pursue studies towards a PhD.
