Course summary
Open doors to the world on this double or triple-language degree as you explore the language and cultures of some of the most influential countries globally.
Course overview
This double or triple-language degree course will provide you with opportunities to develop your linguistic and communication skills to the highest levels, while learning about the history, politics and cultures of the countries you are studying. You can choose from Chinese, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese in your first year. From the second year, you will have the opportunity to continue with two or three languages, or to focus on one.
Why study this course with us?
There are several very attractive features of the Modern Languages course at Chester, such as studying Chinese or Portuguese as language choices and the length of time you can spend working or studying on placements for each of the languages you will study.
We provide the opportunity to spend up to 18 months in up to three different countries. If you choose to study three languages you may study two of them from beginner level.
Teaching methods
You will be taught in a dynamic Department, with access to digital language laboratories, study rooms, and a dedicated resources room. Modules are taught in workshop modes.
Assessment
All four language skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking – will be assessed. You will be assessed via essays, role plays, presentations, summaries, debates, portfolios, discussion papers, translations, projects and dissertation.
Work based learning
You may choose to complete an Introduction to TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) which might be particularly helpful if you are intending to work as a language assistant during your year abroad or longer term.
