MSc in Minimally Invasive Dentistry (MID) is a Clinical MSc programme at the Institute of Dentistry. MID is concerned with treating major dental issues, which can arise across all age groups. This novel discipline of clinical dentistry teaches you how to adopt an approach of minimal intervention to patient tooth treatments and restorations. MID bridges the traditional gap between prevention and surgical procedures. This Clinical MSc is designed for qualified dentists, who enjoy clinical dentistry but who are fascinated with applying new approaches of tooth preserving techniques.

What you'll study
If youre a dentistry graduate or dentistry clinical practitioner who is interested in exploring the latest clinical scientific developments in Minimally Invasive Clinical Dentistry treatments and learning techniques that we use in our world-class dentistry research, then this programme is for you.
This MSc will develop your knowledge of the principles underlying the mechanical, physical and chemical properties of dental materials used in Minimally Invasive Clinical Dentistry, giving you all-round expertise in this innovative field.
Modules focus on different populations, including children and older people, so that you can employ approaches that will effectively encourage oral dental hygiene in your clinical population. Youll also learn a range of prevention and dental disease control management strategies and techniques, allowing you to see improvements in your patients dental health, without the drawbacks of more invasive treatments.
Youll have the advantage of practical clinical experience, using Minimally Invasive techniques in our patient clinics. Youll also attend Community Dental Services during your Older Population and Dental Care with MI Approaches module.
The course furthermore provides modules on skills such as public speaking and positive psychology techniques that will boost your clinical effectiveness.
All of the topics you cover will be examined in relation to risk assessment, patient case management and treatment planning, so you can readily apply your knowledge to your own dentistry clinical practice setting.
