Course summary

Staff in Italian are involved in research primarily in the modern period and can provide postgraduate supervision in a range of topics in modern Italian literature and culture.

OVERVIEW

Our staff expertise is complemented by the broader research environment of the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the College of Arts.

Staff research interests:

  • Contemporary Italian fiction, its translation and reception
  • Emotions and the history of modern Italy
  • Feminism and translation
  • Italian neo avant-garde
  • Literature and translation (multilingual fiction, self translation, theatre translation)
  • Literature, visual art and theatre in 19th-20th century Europe
  • Modern Italian literature and culture
  • Modern Italian poetry
  • Women and modern Italy (history, fiction and journalism).

Thesis length: 30,000-40,000 words (including references and bibliography).

A Master of Philosophy (Research) requires you to undertake a postgraduate course of special study and research that represents a distinct contribution to knowledge.
