Course summary
This Level 4 Higher National Certificate course offers a broad introduction to the dynamic and exciting world of global hospitality. Students will learn about operational practice as well as the strategic development of the UK, European and international hospitality industries. Whether you are new to hospitality or have relevant previous experience and want to widen your horizons, these highly-regarded qualifications could enhance your future career prospects.
About the courseStudents will be encouraged to gain knowledge and understanding of the broad aspects of Hospitality Management. There will be a strong emphasis on employability skills and the underpinning knowledge essential for students with entrepreneurial, employment or academic aspirations. Programme content is designed to be appropriate for entry into or progression within the international hospitality sector and enables students to progress onto higher study at Level 5 Higher National Diploma (HND) or the final year of our BA (Hons) Business and Management degree.This course will be based at the college's new £58 million City Hub campus, near Nottingham train station. The campus opened in 2021 and features state of the art teaching and learning facilities, science laboratories, with a restaurant, cafe and performing arts venue.
Level 4 units are planned to include:-The Contemporary Hospitality Industry -Managing the Customer Experience -Professional Identity and Practice -The Hospitality Business Toolkit -Leadership and Management for Service Industries -Work ExperienceThe other 2 units allow students to study a strand of the hospitality industry in more detail - either Culinary Arts or 'Front of House'.-Managing Food Production (Culinary)-International Gastronomy (Culinary)-Managing Conference and Events (Hospitality)-Managing Food and Beverage Operations (Hospitality)
AssessmentAssignments (including timed assessments – some under examination conditions), individual and group presentations, discussions, academic posters, displays, leaflets, recorded interviews/role plays, reflective journals and work-based projects.
Qualification awarded:Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Hospitality Management (subject to validation)
BursariesWe want our courses to be accessible to students from any background, so we’ve put together a cash support package in the form of non-repayable bursaries to provide financial help where it’s really needed. Your career and progressionFrom the Higher National Certificate (HNC) , students may progress to the Higher National Diploma (HND), from where they could progress to the final year of our BA (Hons) Business and Enterprise Management degree or a similar programme at another institution (subject to entry requirements). Students may further develop their careers by entering employment in a wide range of roles in the global hospitality and tourism sector such as: restaurant/bar/pub manager, conferencing and events manager, marketing and sales manager or hotel and resort manager.
