Research into German culture, its literature, language and film, society, history and the environment.
Based in the School of Language, Literature, Music and Visual Culture, our research programmes in German are distinguished for research on:
Modern and contemporary German and Austrian studies
Post-war memory cultures in Austria and Germany
German and Austrian cinema from the early 20th century until the present day
Ecocritical and comparative approaches to German literature from the Romantic period to the present.
We have long-standing links with other programmes, particularly English, Film and Visual Culture, History and Politics.
