Master the art and science behind the financial markets and develop a deep understanding of the wider business world.

Our CISI-recognised BSc (Hons) Finance and Investment Management course lays the foundations for a range of rewarding careers in this fascinating industry.

The core focus of our teaching is about preparing you for employment. Key modules include Careers in Accounting, Economics and Finance, and Professional Practice – all designed to build practical knowledge of working in the industry. And you wont just be learning about investing in the classroom. Youll also be putting your skills into practice in our on-site trading room, complete with industry-standard professional Bloomberg terminals that reflect live, real-life market developments. Between your second and final years, you can choose to deepen your understanding even further through a year-long work placement – gaining valuable hands on experience within financial organisations including the Royal Bank of Scotland or the Bank of England.

Recent graduates are now working for some of the biggest names in the industry, including Bloomberg, Deloitte and Brewin Dolphin.

How does this course set me up for my future career?

A number of the courses modules have been specifically developed to meet the academic criteria of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) – making it easier for you to take their exams after graduation.

Our Careers and Employment Service are there to help kick-start your next steps through workshops, one-to-one advice and networking opportunities.

Once you complete your studies, youll be ready to pursue career paths across the financial sector – from financial services and banking, to advisory work in finance and insurance both in the UK and around the world. Examples of recent graduate progression from this course include the graduate management trainee scheme at Lloyds Banking Group, an internship at KPMG and banking supervision at the Bank of Russia.

Should you wish to push your knowledge even further, the course also prepares you for postgraduate study – for example, on our MSc in International Finance and Investment, Finance MSc.

Whatever you decide to do, youll have strong employability as a Northumbria graduate as every module of Northumbria Business School courses reinforces what you need to succeed. This includes the transferable skills that really matter to employers such as critical reflection and self-learning, collaboration and curiosity, and the ability to solve problems in sustainable and ethical ways.
