Course overview
Immerse yourself in a creative landscape where sound and visual storytelling intersect. Our Film and Music Production degree at Keele combines the in-depth analysis of film and creative music production as an art form and industry.
Studying this exciting combination of subjects will prepare you to excel in the dynamic worlds of film and music production. You'll graduate with the technical abilities, creative practices, artistic imagination, production skills, and academic understanding to thrive in diverse music genres and creative practice fields. You will have opportunities to learn and practise creative filmmaking, music production, sound design, screen music, audio-visuals, and music software.
Combining theory, practice and professional development, the core curriculum covers essential areas like live sound production, studio engineering, and fundamental filmmaking techniques. You'll explore influential figures and movements in global cinema and creative music production, while developing the skills to craft powerful multimedia narratives around causes and topics that matter to you.
A key focus of the course is empowering you to shape your professional identity and master core skills through dedicated professional and academic development training. You will identify your own strengths using state-of-the-art assessment methods, learn to navigate the contemporary employment market, manage your online presence, and practice for interviews.
To enhance your employability you will apply your learning to real-world challenges and engage with industry employers. In your second and/or third years, you can undertake a work placement module ('Professional Experience for Music Production). This will further enhance your industry connections and professional readiness. You can also (or instead) choose to study this degree over four years, with a work placement year between your second and third year of study.
Throughout the programme, and especially in your final-year project, you will have the opportunity to tailor your studies to your career aspirations and interests. You can choose from a wide range of creative or analytical optional modules, such as working with employer-clients on a series of real-life music production projects or understanding the histories and current state of British filmmaking.
In your final year, you will have the opportunity to unleash your creativity by undertaking an extended research project in film studies and a music production project on a topic that excites and challenges you.
